The battle of Padierna (or Contreras), although believed to be a minor battle, was significant due to the quarrels and betrayals that plagued the Mexican leadership and army. This communication by Santa Anna is written in response to General Valencia's broadside wherein he accuses Santa Anna of treachery. In his own broadside Santa Anna, paints himself the hero of the tale and lays the failure of the battle at General Valencia's feet.
