The body of the dancer is white clay to the waist and this decorated by being scraped off. Ostrich plumes fitted under the nose and leading back over the head, white & black, are used. A monkey or lion skin is often used to form a tall skin hat. Wear only a string of beads around the waist. Each carries a spear and shield and a long knife. At Shimbu the Meru danced for movies. The most interesting feature of the dance is the high jump - with feet dragged behind or even a slight kick back. The long spear, the head dress and practical absence of clothing are remarkable.
