Title
Home of Henry Cloete
Description
A general view of the home with vines in fore. This home over 200 years old. At Wynberg we visited the vineyard and home of Henry Cloete - Alphen (farm). This fine old Dutch house with its floors of yellowwood and ceiling, and walls of teak from India. Walls thick stonework, and steps and grounds beautifully old. A progressive vineyard - looks in winter much like California. A green cover crop to turn under consists mostly of Erodium cicutarium, cockle, Oxalis and ... Hilarium, looks much like the California residual cover. (It differs in having no plants of Malva robustifolia.) The vines are trimmed back and each row supported on one or two wires.
