Title

Road in black cotton soil

Description

Shows type of road in black cotton soil - old native in back. [Shantz travel journal, May 2, 1920] The flats, or undrained places, are a practically pure growth of Themeda on a black, colloidal soil - called "cotton soil" but none of it is cultivated. When wet a car drops right into it - when dry it cracks up and opens wide cracks. [Shantz travel journal, May 1, 1920]
