A crime reporter with Nogales radio station XENY (AM 760), César Barrón talks about the type of stories that he focuses on, the challenges faced by reporters in Mexico, and the effects that violence reporting has on members of his profession. Barron warns of the importance of retaining the capacity to be surprised and empathetic to the suffering of others. He touches on the differences in professional experience based on gender, the use of social networks, and the many opportunities for learning and growth that a journalism student can gain by working in the border.

Habla también de las diferencias en experiencia profesional entre hombres y mujeres reporteros, el uso profesional de redes sociales, y sobre las oportunidades de aprendizaje que se encuentran en frontera desde el punto de vista periodístico.

An account of the resource
Printed broadside related to the movement of the Mexican independence from Spain. This printed senatorial oratory exhorts the Mexican nation to join the government in defending the integrity of the country. The document is signed by members of the Mexican senate and dated December 26, 1845. Among the signatures are those of José Rafael Berruecos, who, as member of the House of Representatives signed a certified act renouncing Augustín de Iturbide's proclamation of Emperorship, and Andrés Quintana Roo, patriotic hero of the Mexican independence who served his country as congressional representative, senator, and president of the Supreme High Court. Comunicado impreso relacionado al movimiento de la independencia Mexicana de España. En ésta imprenta fechada el 26 de diciembre,1845, el Senado de la Nación Mexicana exhorta a la nación a unirse al gobierno para defender la integridad de la patria. Entre los firmantes se encuentran los nombres de los senadores José Rafael Berruecos, quien como miembro de la Secretaría de la Cámara de Diputados al congreso general de México firmó actas certificadas renunciando la proclamación del Emperador Augustín de Iturbide. Se encuentra también la firma de Andrés Quintana Roo, constituyente y héroe nacional de la independencia de México quien sirvió a su patria como diputado, senador y presidente del Tribunal Supremo de Justicia.

Photo editor for the Semanario Zeta, Ramon Blanco Villalon is the last founding member still employed at the newspaper that was first managed by his father. After 34 years in the Semanario, Blanco notes how his job has evolved, from the influence exerted by digital technology, to the need to work in pairs and even groups of three to protect themselves against violence. Blanco also talks about the use of social media and how his weekly paper respects sources that request not being identified. Noting how journalists from different times bring something different to the photographs they take, he touches on his role as mentor for young reporters, and how he uses weekly meetings to teach and well as learn from one another. Finally, he touches on the difference on how reporters get started in the U.S. vs how they do in Mexico, where experience trumps schooling.

Después de 34 años en el Seminario, Blanco nota como ha cambiado su trabajo, desde la influencia de la tecnología digital, hasta la necesidad de trabajar en pares y hasta en grupos de 3 para protejerse de violencia. Blanco también habla del uso de las redes sociales y de como respetan sus fuentes cuando les piden no ser identificados. Notando como los periodistas de diferentes edades traen a su trabajo diferentes puntos de vista a las fotografías que toman, él habla de su papel como mentor de reporteros jóvenes, y de como usa juntas semanales para enseñarles y también para aprender de ellos. Finalmente, él menciona la diferencia de como reporteros emprenden su carrera en los Estados Unidos en comparación con Mexico, donde la experiencia destrona a la educación formal.

An account of the resource
Document certifying the baptism of Maria Guadalupe Anselmo Vicente on the 21st of April, 1820 at the Parish Church of Villa de Orizaba (a city in the state of Veracruz). The baptism is recorded in a folio covered in yellow tanned leather wherein the baptisms of Spaniards of Mexico were recorded from 1811 to 1817. The sacristan, Don Manuel Maria de Bocarando, swears to have faithfully copied the original document and he signs his name to it, followed by the line attesting that it was so copied at the behest of Juan Crisostomo Gutierrez. The copy is dated the 11th of September,1819, indicating a scribal error in recording of the baptismal date. The document bears the Polleri watermark. Documento certificando el bautizo de Maria Guadalupe Anselmo Vicente el 21 dia de abril de 1820 en la iglesia parroquial de la Villa de Orizaba (estado de Veracruz). El documento afirma que el bautizo está documentado en un folio forrado en bandana amarilla en el cual se encuentran grabados los bautizos de los Españoles en México. El folio, según dicho documento, contiene lost bautizos efectuados entre los años 1811 a 1817. El sacristán Don Manuel María de Bocarando, firma la copia y jura haber copiado fielmente el documento original, segun la petición de Juan Crisostomo Gutierrez. El certificado (dicha copia del folio original) esta fechado el 11 de Septiembre de 1819 (señalando un error en la anotación de la fecha del bautizo). El documento lleva la filigrana de Polleri.

An account of the resource
Arturo Bojorquez, the editor for the Adelante Valle newspaper, talks about the misconception that matters in the U.S. side of the border are more stable than on the Mexican side (Calexico). Stating that political and environmental issues are troubling on both sides, he mentions cases of threats to journalist on the U.S. side as well. Bojorque mentions the good relationship enjoyed among journalists in his geographical area and his work battling corruption in journalism. Bojorques goes on to discuss his involvement with the Association of University Journalists, an organization that targets professional and college-trained journalists and which focuses in networking and helping young journalists remain current of ethical standards.
Arturo Bojorquez, editor del diario Adelante Valle, habla del concepto equivocado que muchos tienen respecto a la situación en ambos lados de la frontera, ya que el lado de los Estados Unidos no es mas estable que el Mexicano (Calexico). Entre los problemas que afecta a ambos lados estan el ambiente político y la salud del medio ambiente, e incluso han habido amenazas en contra de periodistas del lado norte de la frontera. Bojorque menciona las buenas relaciones que disfrutan los periodistas de su región geográfica y sobre su trabajo en contra de la corrupción periodística. Bojorques discute su involucramiento con la Asociación de Periodistas Universitarios, una organización que sirve a periodistas profesionales con educación universitaria, y la cual se enfoca en fomentar un intercambio de ideas y a ayudar a estudiantes de la profesión a que se mantengan al tanto de los estandares éticos periodísticos.

Description
An account of the resource
Laura Borbolla Moreno describes her job as the new special prosecutor on crimes against journalists and freedom of expression with La Fiscalía Especial para la Atención de Delitos cometidos en contra de la Libertad de Expresión (FEADLE). Borbolla argues for the need to protect journalists who are constantly threatened while urging for patience as well since her office is brand new and needs time to develop. Even though there is mistrust between the government and journalists, leading many not to contact her office, Borbolla asserts that journalists need to report threats and violence against them so that they can be addressed and tracked by her office.
Laura Borbolla Moreno describe su puesto en la Fiscalía Especial para la Atención de Delitos Cometidos en Contra de la Libertad de Expresión (FEADLE) en México. Borbolla describe tanto la necesidad de proteger a periodistas que reciben amenazas constantes como la necesidad de ser pacientes con el proceso ya que su oficina y posición apenas empiezan y necesitan tiempo para desarrollarse. A pesar de la falta de confianza entre el gobierno y la prensa que se refleja en los pocos reportes recibidos, Borbolla asegura que periodistas tienen la responsabilidad de reportar las amenazas en su contra para que estos reciban la atención requerida.
