From the Public Information Office, Fourteenth Naval District: Memorial services and plaque honor dead aboard USS Arizona. The sunken hulk of the battleship USS Arizona was the site for memorial services and the unveiling of a plaque in honor of the men who gave their lives nine years ago during the Japanese attack of Pearl Harbor. The plaque, which reads in part, "Dedicated to the Eternal Memory of Our Gallant Shipmates in the USS Arizona who Gave Their Lives in Action 7 December 1941" was unveiled by Admiral Arthur W. Radford, USN, Commander in Chief, Pacific Fleet, on the morning of December 7, 1950. Similar services were held alongside of the hulk of the ex-battleship USS Utah.
